Dubai World Central (where the Jebel Ali International Airport is being constructed) is planned to have a total of 100,000 parking slots for automobile vehicles for both its employees, Dubai residents, tourists, and other users. This will give the air facility the distinction of having the largest parking facility in the world. The former title belonged to West Edmonton Mall's 20,000 slot parking lot.
The UAE was formerly known as the Trucial States, Trucial Coast, or Trucial Oman and that the seven constituent emirates were bound to Great Britain by truce (1820) and agreement (1892). After World War II Britain granted autonomy to the emirates, and in 1971 the independent federation was formed; neighboring Qatar and Bahrain, which originally were to be part of the federation, opted for separate statehood.
